About us

A repair business that would rather keep the customer than the job

Hawk Appliances repairs domestic appliances across Greater Manchester. Washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers, ovens, cooker hoods and fridge freezers — diagnosed properly in one visit, and fixed the same day wherever the part is on the van.

What we actually do

Most appliance faults are not dramatic. A drain pump with a hairgrip through the impeller. A dryer that has quietly filled with lint over four years. A thermostat reading fifty degrees light, so every roast takes an extra half hour. None of these needs a new appliance and most of them do not need an expensive part — they need somebody who has seen the fault before to spend an hour on it.

That is the whole business. An engineer arrives with the parts that fail most often already in the van, tests the appliance properly rather than guessing from the symptom, and tells you in plain English what has gone and what it will cost. Most jobs are finished there and then.

We are a mobile operation, not a shop. Nobody carries a washing machine anywhere — we come to you, across Manchester, Bolton, Oldham and the boroughs around them, Monday to Saturday.

How we work

We tell you when not to repair it

The easiest money in this trade is a repair on an appliance that was never going to last the year. When we find drum bearings gone on a sealed unit, or a failed sealed system on an older fridge, we say so and show you the figures — and you pay the call-out and nothing more. It costs us a job and it is the reason people ring us again.

One fee, whatever the job turns out to be

No hourly rate, no minimum charge, no weekend premium. A repair that goes badly costs you exactly what one that goes smoothly costs. The awkward jobs are our problem to price, not yours.

The whole appliance gets checked

You called about the fault you noticed. We check the rest anyway — the pump and drain path on a washing machine, the lint against the element on a dryer, the seals on a fridge. It is five minutes, and it is how a second visit next month gets avoided.

Nothing is fitted without your say-so

You get the diagnosis and the figure before anything is ordered, and then you decide. No part appears on a bill that you had not agreed to.

The guarantee is on paper

Repair work carries 6 months. If the same fault comes back within it, we return and put it right at no charge.

Straight answers

Where we stop

A short list, because knowing where a trade stops is as useful as knowing what it does.

Not an electrician

We repair appliances. New cooker circuits, consumer units and fixed wiring are a qualified electrician's work and we will point you at one.

Electric appliances only

We do not work on gas cookers, hobs or ovens, or on boilers and heating. Those need an engineer registered for gas work.

Not an appliance shop

We do not sell appliances. That is part of why you can believe us when we say one is worth keeping — there is nothing in it for us either way.
