The things people ask
Including the awkward ones. If yours is not here, ring us.
Booking a visit
How soon can someone come out?
Same day where the diary allows it and you are within reach, otherwise the next working day. A fridge or freezer that has stopped goes to the front of the queue, because that is the one with a clock on it.
Do I have to wait in all day?
No. We agree a two-hour window when we ring you back, not a whole day. If the engineer is running behind, you get a call rather than a silence.
What do you need from me when I book?
The make, and what the appliance is doing. If you can find the model number — usually on a sticker inside the door frame, behind the drawer or on the back — and read out any error code on the display, the engineer can often bring the part with them and finish on the first visit.
Do you work Saturdays?
Yes, 9am to 6pm, at the same price as a weekday. We are closed on Sundays.
Price and payment
What does it cost?
£58.80 inc-VAT for the call-out and diagnosis, and £94.80 inc-VAT in total if we carry out the repair. Parts are extra and always quoted before they are ordered.
What if it cannot be repaired?
You pay the call-out only, and you keep the diagnosis — what has failed, and what a part would cost — so you can make your own decision about replacing it.
How do I pay?
Card or bank transfer, when the work is done.
The repair
Will it be fixed on the first visit?
Usually. The parts that fail most often travel on the van. Where something has to be ordered we will tell you on the day what it is, what it costs and when we can be back.
Do you use genuine parts?
Genuine manufacturer parts where they are available and sensibly priced, and good-quality equivalents where they are not. We will tell you which you are getting before it goes in.
What does the guarantee cover?
6 months on the repair work. If the same fault returns within that time we come back and put it right at no charge. It covers the repair we carried out — not a different fault that develops elsewhere in the appliance later.
Do you repair appliances still under manufacturer warranty?
We can, but check first — a repair by an independent engineer can invalidate a manufacturer warranty that would have covered the work for nothing. If your appliance is under two years old, ring the manufacturer before you ring us. We would rather tell you that than take the job.
What we do and do not do
Do you work on gas cookers or gas hobs?
No. We repair and install electric appliances only — electric cookers, ovens and hobs included. A gas appliance needs an engineer registered for gas work. If you are not sure which yours is, a cooker or hob with a gas pipe going into it is gas.
Do you install new appliances?
Yes — all seven of the appliances we repair, connected to the supply that is already there, levelled and tested before we leave. It is priced when you book, before anything is done. Choose installation on the booking form, or see the installation page for what is and is not included.
Does my fridge need regassing?
Less often than people think. Refrigerant is not consumed — if it has gone, it has leaked, and a top-up that does not find the leak will not last. Most fridges that stop cooling have a fan, heater or thermostat fault instead. We find out which it is first, and tell you honestly whether the appliance is worth the repair.
Do you sell appliances?
No. We repair and install, but we do not sell appliances, which is part of why you can trust us when we say one is worth keeping. If you have bought a new one, we can fit it.
Do you work for landlords and letting agents?
Yes. Ring us and we will talk through how you want jobs raised, who the engineer should contact for access, and how invoicing should work.
